GOOD TO KNOW

Lapland North Destinations in North Lapland region is a destination management organization, which works in close collaboration with 100 tourism companies and the municipalities of Inari and Utsjoki, the state-owned forest management company Metsähallitus, and other stakeholders.

The North Lapland region covers municipalities of Inari and Utsjoki and the northern part of Sodankylä municipality.

Average temperature in January is about -15 C.

Hours of daylight is approx. 3-4 hours per day (from ~10 am to ~2 pm)

Please bring and wear long thermal underwear and good warm socks as well as wool, fleece orsimilar sweater as a midlayer. Please bring your own warm hat, scarf, and gloves with you. Thermal overall and winter shoes will be provided for activities at the destination.

Please bring also a swimsuit for Finnish sauna experience.

14:10 Arriving in Helsinki

16:15 Flight from Helsinki to Ivalo

17:55 Arrival at Ivalo airport where your local host will warmly welcome you. Transfer to Saariselkä and to Gáldu Hotel & Spa. Transfer time approx. 35 minutes.

~19:00 Check-in to your hotel room

19:30~21:00 Dinner is served in the hotel’s restaurant

Before going to sleep, remember to check the sky! If the sky is clear - and you have a bit of luck - you might see Northern Lights dancing in the sky!

15:15 Check in to your hotel room in Wilderness Hotel Saariselkä. Some free time to relax.

17:00 Meet at the hotel’s reception for transfer to the local reindeer farm. Excursion is operated by Lapponia Tours.

17:30~18:45 Meet a professional guide who will introduce us to the fascinating world of reindeer and traditional reindeer herding. You'll have the opportunity to greet and feed the reindeer, and enjoy a short ride through the night forest. With a bit of luck, the Northern Lights may even light up the sky!

18:45~20:30 After the reindeer ride we will enjoy dinner by open fire in a cozy kota restaurant.

Transfer back to Wilderness Hotel Saariselkä for overnight.

08:45 Meet at the hotel’s reception and transfer to the husky farm

09:00~11:45 We will have the opportunity to experience the magic of Lapland with the Arctic huskies! After getting warmly dressed in thermal outfits we’ll meet our dogs and set off through the peaceful wilderness on a shared sledge (one person as a driver, another sitting comfortably in the sledge, switching places halfway). The 10 km route takes about 1–1.5 hours of actual driving. After the ride, we’ll warm up in a cozy kota with a hot drink while learning more about the dogs and the farm.

12:00-12:30 Site inspection of Wilderness Hotel Muotka

Transfer to Saariselkä centre, where we’ll have site inspections to the following hotels. Lunch is served approx. at 13:15-14:30.

15:50 Transfer from Saariselkä to Inari village and to Wilderness Hotel Juutua. Transfer time approx. one hour.

17:00-18:30 With around 3.2 million saunas across the country, sauna culture is deeply rooted in Finnish life —both past and present. No visit to Finland is complete without experiencing this cherished tradition. Wilderness Hotel Juutua’s sauna and meeting venue, Koski, sits beautifully by the River Juutua and offers a perfect setting for relaxation. You can enjoy soothing baths in sauna, while the jacuzzi on the terrace provides a stunning view of the river.

19:00~21:00 Dinner at the award-winning Restaurant Aanaar. We will enjoy a memorable dining experience at Restaurant Aanaar, where a deep appreciation for Lapland’s nature and heritage is reflected in every dish. The kitchen crafts unique creations using organic, locally sourced ingredients from regional producers and foragers.

Transfer to Sámi Museum Siida.

10:00-11:00 A guided tour in Sámi Museum Siida. During the tour we will get familiar with the ancient and vibrant Sámi culture as well as get a good glimpse of the arctic nature.

11:00~11:45 Transfer to Ivalo airport
