GOOD TO KNOW

Lapland North Destinations in North Lapland region is a destination management organization, which works in close collaboration with 100 tourism companies and the municipalities of Inari and Utsjoki, the state-owned forest management company Metsähallitus, and other stakeholders.

The North Lapland region covers municipalities of Inari and Utsjoki and the northern part of Sodankylä municipality.

Average temperature in January is about -15 C.

Hours of daylight is approx. 3-4 hours per day (from ~10 am to ~2 pm)

Please bring and wear long thermal underwear and good warm socks as well as wool, fleece orsimilar sweater as a midlayer. Please bring your own warm hat, scarf, and gloves with you. Thermal overall and winter shoes will be provided for activities at the destination.

Please bring also a swimsuit for Finnish sauna experience.

10:00~11:00 Breakfast and info session on Lapland North tourism region.

11:00~11:30 Site inspection of Wilderness Hotel Inari.

After site inspection a short transfer to Visit Inari.

12:00~14:00 Snowmobile Sledge Safari to Sámi Historical Site with Visit Inari. Travel in a sledge pulled by snowmobile across the frozen Lake Inari, the Sámi Sea, to a historic location, the old Sámi winter village in Pielpajärvi, where people gathered to stay for the winter months during centuries. Built in 1760, it is one of the oldest buildings in northern Lapland. Enjoy a snack by an open campfire along the way.
After the snowmobile adventure a short transfer to Wilderness Hotel Juutua.

14:30~15:00 Site inspection of Wilderness Hotel Juutua.

15:00~16:30 After site inspection a short transfer to Sámi Museum Siida where we’ll have a guided tour. During the tour we will get familiar with the ancient and vibrant Sámi culture as well as get a good glimpse of the arctic nature. After the tour we will have some free time for shopping in the Siida’s museum shop. 

After museum visit transfer to Visit Inari.

Check-in to your hotel room.

18:00~20:00 Dinner is served in the hotel’s cozy Restaurant Aurora.

Before going to sleep, remember to check the sky! If the sky is clear - and you have a bit of luck - you might see Northern Lights dancing in the sky!

13:00-14:30 Lunch in Wilderness Hotel Kieppi. After lunch a short transfer to Wilderness Hotel Saariselkä for site inspection.

15:15 Check-in to your hotel room in Wilderness Hotel Saariselkä. Some free time to relax.

17:00 Meet at the hotel’s reception for transfer to the local reindeer farm. Excursion is operated by Lapponia Tours

17:30~18:45 Meet a professional guide who will introduce us to the fascinating world of reindeer and traditional reindeer herding. You'll have the opportunity to greet and feed the reindeer, and enjoy a short ride through the night forest. With a bit of luck, the Northern Lights may even light up the sky!

18:45~20:30 After the reindeer ride we will enjoy dinner by open fire in a cozy kota restaurant by open fire

Transfer back to Wilderness Hotel Saariselkä for overnight

Monday 12.01.2026

08:45 Meet at the hotel’s reception and transfer to the husky farm

09:00~11:45 We will have the opportunity to experience the magic of Lapland with the Arctic huskies! After getting warmly dressed in thermal outfits we’ll meet our dogs and set off through the peaceful wilderness on a shared sledge (one person as a driver, another sitting comfortably in the sledge, switching places halfway). The 10 km route takes about 1–1.5 hours of actual driving. After the ride, we’ll warm up in a cozy kota with a hot drink while learning more about the dogs and the farm.

11:45 A short transfer from husky farm to Wilderness Hotel Muotka

12:00-12:30 Site inspection of Wilderness Hotel Muotka

Transfer to Saariselkä centre, where we’ll have site inspections to the following hotels. Lunch is served approx. at 13:15-14:30.

16:30-18:00 It’s time for Finnish sauna experience in Gáldu’s secluded, arctic spa.
They offer three distinct saunas designed to enhance your relaxation: traditional Finnish sauna with a scenic view, Finnish sauna with a wood-burning heater and panoramic views and steam room for a soothing, immersive experience. You can also step outside to discover the luxurious jacuzzi, offering beautiful views of the snowy forest, a warm pool perfect for swimming, and their signature cold plunge completing the full Gáldu experience.
