Lapland North Destinations in North Lapland region is a destination management organization, which works in close collaboration with 100 tourism companies and the municipalities of Inari and Utsjoki, the state-owned forest management company Metsähallitus, and other stakeholders.
The North Lapland region covers municipalities of Inari and Utsjoki and the northern part of Sodankylä municipality.
Average temperature in April is about -3 C, hours of daylight is approx. 15 hours per day.
Please bring and wear long thermal underwear and good warm socks as well as wool, fleece of similar sweater as a midlayer. Please bring your own warm hat and gloves with you.
Thermal overall and winter shoes will be provided for you at the destination.
Driving a snowmobile requires a driving licence which is written in Latin alphapet. Snowmobiles are driven 2 persons/snowmobile (one is driving, one is sitting behind the driver, driver can be switched during the excursion). Driving a snowmobile under the influence of alcohol is prohibited.
A trip to northernmost Lapland, to the arctic travel region of Lapland North Destinations, is always a memorable experience. Lapland North also offers a versatile choice of high-standard accommodation options: glass igloos and many other types of aurora or midnight sun lodgings, hotels, villas, chalets, and cottages. The Lappish gourmet culture is rich and tasty, and it offers flavors for very taste. In Lapland North you can enjoy delicacies that are produced, collected, and hunted by locals. There is a large variety of cuisine from fine dining restaurants to a Laplander’s hut where the food is prepared on an open fire.

10:30AM Getting equipped for the day’s activities. Thermal overalls and shoes will be provided and the same equipment will be at our disposal throughout the whole FAM trip.
11:00AM Transfer to Star Arctic’s Wilderness Centre
Star Arctic’s Wilderness Centre which serves as a base camp for the majority of their activities such as husky safaris, reindeer rides and ice fishing. Transfer time approx. 20 minutes.
11:30AM-11:50AM Site inspection of Wilderness Centre
12:00PM Then it’s time to meet the energetic huskies which eagerly wait to take us on a sledge ride in the surrounding wilderness!
There will be 2 persons per husky sledge; one is driving and one is sitting in a sledge. Everyone will have a chance to drive as the driver will be switched during the excursions. Husky ride takes about one hour. After the ride we will have time to pet the dogs and learn more about these arctic dogs.

02:30PM-04:00PM We will go for a snowmobile safari!
The safari provides a perfect way to experience the beautiful nature of northernmost Lapland while having no rush with driving. The route climbs up the fells to the top where you are greeted by an awe-inspiring landscape. Snowmobiles are driven 2 persons/snowmobile (one is driving, one is sitting behind the driver, driver can be switched during the excursion). After snowmobiling a short transfer to Northern Lights Village where we will be approx. at 16:30. Upon arrival site inspection of the hotel.

10:00AM-12:00PM We will take part to a snowshoe trip
Snowshoeing is the closest way to experience the nature of Lapland. The deep snow crunching under the shoes, the snow-hooded trees, and the pearly-white willow grouse watching you from afar – the winter nature is a magical world of its own. We will hike through the forest in snowshoes to a nearby fell where we will build a fire, prepare a hot drink and enjoy the spectacular scenery. The guide will provide information on the nature and animals of Lapland, and with any luck, we may see a Siberian jay, a willow grouse, or a herd of reindeer wandering by.

01:15PM-02:45PM It’s time to meet the furry locals - reindeer!
We will take a short walk to Northern Lights Village’s reindeer paddock. There we will get to meet a reindeer herder who will introduce us the reindeer. And of course, we will also get to feed the reindeer and take ride in a reindeer sleigh through the snowy forest. This is a great opportunity to experience how Laplanders used to move around before snowmobiles arrived in the northern wilderness.

excursion
10:00AM-02:00PM We will make a snowmobile trip to Lake Inari, which is the biggest lake in Lapland.
During the excursion we will make a stop and try ice fishing which is done in a traditional Finnish way. We will learn how fishing can be done during winter and hear interesting facts about the life in the North. Our guide will teach us how to make holes through the ice, and then we try and see who's the best fisher! During the snowmobile safari we will also make a visit to the beautiful historical Pielpajärvi Wilderness Church. Built in 1760, it is one of the oldest buildings in northern Lapland. It is also the old winter village of Inari, where people gathered to stay for the winter months during centuries. Outdoor lunch is served during the excursion.

During the tour you will get familiar with the ancient and vibrant Sámi culture as well as get a good glimpse of the arctic nature. Some free time for shopping in the Siida shop.
01:30PM After visit to Siida, transfer from Inari to Xwander Nordic’s Wilderness Camp
which is located in the peaceful pine forest by the Lake Rahajärvi. Driving distance
approx. 30 minutes.
02:00PM-05:45PM Upon arrival to the Wilderness Camp outdoor lunch will be served.
After lunch we will experience a ride with electric snowscooters. We will zoom through the pristine winter scenery, feeling the rush of the wind against our face as we navigate through snowy trails and forests. These eco-friendly snowscooters offer a thrilling ride while minimizing environmental impact. We will also make a woolly sock hike in the surrounding nature. We will be outfitted with warm, woolly socks, keeping our feet comfortable throughout the journey. Our experienced guide will lead us through snow-covered trails and we will have a chance to marvel at the tranquil beauty that surrounds us. At the end of the wilderness camp visit there is a short introduction to survival skills.
